The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, popularly known as Lake House, was founded by D. R. Wijewardene in the early 1920s and remains one of Sri Lanka's most recognised publishing institutions.
Lake House Rest is located in the heart of Kataragama town, directly facing the main bus stand. The property began offering rooms in 1994 to provide reasonable accommodation at an affordable price for pilgrims visiting the Kataragama sacred city.
Starting with two AC rooms, the property grew to 16 furnished rooms in the Old Wing. In 2015, a new two-storied wing added 12 fully furnished AC rooms — bringing total capacity to 26 rooms.
